Seoul, June 22, 2022

On June 20, 2022, Ilham Kadri, CEO and President of the Executive Committee of Solvay, was awarded an honorary degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Women’s Studies from Ewha Womans University after a resolution of the Ewha Graduate School Committee. The distinction recognises Dr. Kadri’s commitment to Science and Humanity in the World as well as her contribution to the advancement of Human Rights through Women’s Empowerment.

 “The university gives credit to Dr. Ilham Kadri for having devoted her life to the science and business fields”, Eun Mee Kim, President of Ewha Womans University.

During the ceremony, Ilham Kadri gave an acceptance speech in which she spoke about her personal path and career as a woman and a leader in the field of science and technology, and how we can collectively lift up women, to lift up a community, and to lift up the world.

“I am honored and humbled to receive an honorary doctorate from Ewha Womans University today. If my story leads one more girl or one more woman to think ‘if Ilham did it, I can do it too,’ then I will be the happiest woman.” She emphasizes in addition, “ I am confident that a partnership with Ewha is one of the keys for building a female talent pipeline.”

Ewha Womans University has awarded honorary doctorate degrees to influential leaders who have made significant contributions to various fields of society, including former UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, the former German Chancellor Angela Merkel, former Estonian President Kersti Kaljulaid, and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Dr. Denis Mukwege.
